PRIVATE TUTORING / LOS ANGELES & ONLINE / ALL AGES
Go beyond the steps.
Build the understanding to tackle what’s next.

YOUR TUTOR / JOSEPH OLKHA
4+ years helping students learn. UCLA astrophysics undergraduate. Associate degree in mathematics, earned with high honors.
01 / SUBJECTS
For all ages, from first foundations to college coursework and adults returning to learning.

A LITTLE CURIOSITY GOES A LONG WAY
Choose an example below. Move a slider, make a prediction, and watch the idea take shape.
CHOOSE AN INTERACTIVE EXAMPLE
01 / CALCULUS · JOSEPH’S FAVORITE
What happens to the slope as you move across a parabola? Make a prediction, then move the point.
Think it through: where is the slope zero, and what does the curve do there?
02 / MULTIVARIABLE CALCULUS
A valley from one direction. A hill from another. Turn the slice to see why a flat tangent plane can hide a saddle point.
This slice curves upward: the center is its minimum.
Zero slope is only the beginning. The direction you choose reveals what happens next.
03 / ELECTRICITY & MAGNETISM
A charge sits inside an imaginary sphere. Increase the radius: the field gets weaker, while the sphere’s surface area grows.
Arrows show direction; color intensity indicates relative field strength. The dashed sphere is an imaginary surface, not a conductor.
Think it through: what changes the net flux, the sphere’s size, or the charge inside?
04 / MECHANICS
Change the angle and speed, then launch. Horizontal speed stays constant while gravity changes the vertical speed.
Ideal motion: no air resistance, level ground, g = 9.81 m/s². Playback is slowed for clarity.
Think it through: at the same speed, why do 30° and 60° reach the same distance but different heights?
Send your classwork or a topic you’re stuck on. We can build a lesson around it.
SUPPORT THAT FITS YOUR LIFE
Homework, review, exam preparation, or learning something new. We’ll find a format and a plan that work for you.
Focused time for your questions, your pace, and a consistent plan for progress.
Learn with classmates. Groups receive lower per-student rates, with further reductions for larger groups.
In person at a home, library, or school by arrangement. Online is also available; I recommend in person where practical.
Pricing reflects the subject, format, and your family’s needs. Packages are available. We agree on the price before you book.

02 / MEET JOSEPH
I’m Joseph Olkha, a UCLA astrophysics undergraduate with an associate degree in mathematics, earned with high honors. I bring 4+ years of tutoring experience, helping students build understanding and confidence.
Calculus is my favorite subject to tutor. I’m passionate about teaching and science communication, and I also pursue independent mathematics research.
I combine Socratic questions with visuals, direct explanations, and practice. Each lesson adapts to the learner, with prepared material when shared ahead and flexibility on the day.
03 / HOW WE WORK
Thoughtful preparation. Adaptable explanations. Consistent support built around your goals and the way you learn.
Share material ahead for prepared visuals and examples. Bringing questions on the day works, too.
Guided questions, diagrams, and worked examples help the idea click. I adapt the method and pace to you.
Try related problems and explain your reasoning. We identify the next steps and a schedule that fits.
04 / THE DETAILS

We’ll work out the right fit together.
